Blink- Matthew is two months old!

We can't believe another month has already passed us by. We know all of you have been eagerly awaiting an update- so here goes:

This month has been a lot of fun. Matthew is much more engaged with us, he coos at us, he follows objects with his eyes and loves reading books. However, he is still only two months old, so we never know what kind of day it will be with him (saying every day is an adventure is an understatement). Some days are like this:

Other days are like this:

Some days Mommy and Matthew have bad days (which are especially tough on Daddy):

You have probably heard people say that being a parent is the hardest and most rewarding thing you will ever do. We are only two months into it, but so far we agree. Matthew is a handful at times, but one little smile from him makes us forget about the entire day of fussiness and crying.

One thing we've noticed is that Matthew is really growing! He started out at 9 pounds 10 ounces and ended the month at 12 pounds 6 ounces! You can even tell the difference just looking at pictures. Here he at is looking at mommy (dressed formally even when just hanging around the house) just after he turned 1 month old.

This month Matthew really focused on looking at us more. It is very exciting when he interacts with us.

Matthew has had several exciting outings this month. He went to the mall with mommy on several occasions. He helped pick our picture frames for his newborn photos (see last month's post). He made his first trip to the hardware store (but Mommy didn't let Daddy buy him any power tools). He visited grandparents and even checked out his daycare.
He also helped mommy and daddy pick out a new couch this month.

(He decided he wasn't a big fan of this couch so we bought another one).
Matthew also smiling at us much more this month. Here he is enjoying a good story from Daddy (at least he pretended to be interested).

One of Matthew's favorite times of the day is bath time. He gets a bath every day, but it usually just wakes him up for more playtime! This was his first time in his personal bathtub and he wasn't too sure about it.

We also probably put in too much water, but don't worry- Susan was a lifeguard.
Matthew usually gets a sponge bath which he really enjoys.

For daycare, Matthew needs a hat to go outside. Susan found him the biggest one she could.

Matthew also outgrew his co-sleeper this month. He now sleeps in his own bed. Here he is enjoying one of his last few nights in bed with Mommy and Daddy (with his longhorn wubbanub). He is also learning to hold on to objects, which is pretty exciting (at least it is if you are a parent).

He still gets wrapped up like a burrito to sleep at night (otherwise he just tosses and turns and wakes himself up). We used to use blankets to swaddle him, but the Swaddle Me is much easier to use (free advise for any of you parents-to-be out there. Don't worry, everyone will be giving you advice whether you want it or not).

These pictures really show how much he grew during the month.

Matthew's head control is better, but still needs some more work (especially when he is tired).

Matthew isn't sure why we are always taking pictures and protests by refusing to look at the camera sometimes.

Here he is with his favorite wrist rattle.

He really likes to prop his head up when he sleeps. His Daddy used to do the same thing.

For daycare we were asked to decorate a house with pictures of the family. As some of you might know, Susan is what some refer to as "detail oriented". Matthew wisely left her alone most of one day and she put together a work of art. (Not surprisingly, it was the most Type-A house in the entire class).

Matthew and Mommy taking it easy (Matthew wants Daddy to hurry up with the picture).

Matthew has a beautiful smile (at least we think so).

Here he is in his longhorn outfit (as you can probably guess, he has more than one) playing in his playroom.

Mommy is ready for Matthew to start walking. Here he is showing off his monogrammed pajamas.

Matthew started his immunizations this month. As you parents know, it is heartbreaking to hear your child cry when he gets an injection. You know he needs it, but it was hard to watch (although Matthew will probably say that he had the harder job). He did well the rest of the day, but that night he developed a slight fever. Fortunately it was gone the next morning.

We will try to keep this updated a least once a month, if not more frequently. However, as we said before- children are hard work and it is difficult to get anything done when you are taking care of a two month old (with two of us taking care of Matthew today this post still took most of the day to complete). Feel free to call us and check in if you want more frequent updates.
See you next time!
